Hi,
A friend has an 02 Polo 1.2 with the AZQ engine. She has had problems with erratic idle. The fault codes were read, pointed to MAP sensor and intermittent Lambda problem, both changed, no difference!!!
Since then, they have diagnosed timing chain, common problem from reading these forums!!! STILL no better!!! The guy who did it said the ECU is not recognising the MAP sensor, its using default settings?? But if you unplug the MAP sensor, the ECU knows its not there!!! He has since tried another MAP sensor, still no difference!! Now everyone is saying its an ECU problem!! If you start the car up, it will idle really badly even cutting out. But, if you take it for a drive, it will idle fine until you turn it off and start it up again!! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

my car does this and its a 1.4 fsi.
It VERY!! Intermittantly will drop the revs to quick when i come to a stop. It almost seems for me it drops that quick it cuts its self out. How ever if i keep the revs up while stopped, then drive off and keep going for 10-15 mins it sorts its self out
.
I too had it tested and it looked to be the air intake temp sensor, again replaced and made naff all difference.
tbh for me considering how intermittent it is, i dont want to waste money on it.
With your problem does it happen every time you start/stop the car?
Phil

Thanks. We haven't looked at the throttle body, although a couple of people have suggested this could be a problem. How difficult is it to get off?? Also, is there anything specific to look for while its off??
As for when this problem occurs, everytime the car is started its a problem!! I've also just been told the engine mangement light is back on again!!! Oh joy!!!!
Thanks once again for all your help.
