Hey guys. Just put a deposit on a 2000 Polo GTI.
Previously had a Saxo VTR, and I just have a few questions about the GTI before I go ahead and pay the rest of the money.
I found the clutch quite hard (compared to my Saxo and my Punto - current rental car), just wondered if this was normal? Also found it a lot shorter than other cars I've driven.
Sounded to me that the front drivers side calliper was rubbing the disc. The dealer thought it could be because the car has been stationary for a while - does this sound reasonable?
The dealer is getting the car MOTed on Monday - this should surely pick up any problems with it, right?
Car has a full VW service history and one previous owner.
So, just wondered if you guys thought this would be a sound purchase? Any help would be much appreciated.
From what I've seen and driven, I love it. Can't believe how quick it is off the mark. Anyway, will sure be putting pics up when I buy it and hopefully be posting a bit more.

I asked the same question about my clutch when i got my polo and everyone i have asked say that they are heavy, you.re not the first and i bet not the last to ask if a heavy clutch is right.
Well done for choosing a polo after a saxo, now you will see what all the fuss about german build quality is all about! you wont regret it.

Yeah, really impressed with the build quality; ten times better than my Saxo. Can't wait till Monday till I go back and (hopefully) get it.

As D77 said, the clutch is naturally heavy in most GTis. Not sure about this, its never happened on my car. See if you can have a second drive of the car and look for the same symptoms. Just check all the elecrtics work like the windows and a/c. i had a broken wire between the A pilar and my drivers door non of the switches worked on my door and had to reach across to the pasenger side to put that window down, most anoying at the drive through, And the ac check you are getting cold enough air and when you put the temp on 18'c make sure it's not banging out air at the hottest setting, that usually means there is a temp flap buggered. Will get round to fixing mine one day. only other thing is to read the sticky at the top of the gti page.

you've seen the light at the end of the tunnel a set of GTI xenons lol. hopefully you've got your self a minter there is all sorts of problems just like any other car but as long as its well looked after you should have many happy driving experiences with the GTI ive had mine for 4yrs and ive had nothing major go wrong(touch wood). be good to see you at some shows where you from mate???

Can you tell me abit more about that broken Wire D77.
Mines doing something similar, none of my drivers side switchs work properly. Central locking, Electric mirror, Windows. The CL switch will work if the ignition is off, but not when its on. I can lower the passenger side window with the passenger side window switch, and bring it back up with the drivers side switch, but not down from the drivers side. I can hear relays and and the cl pump when the switches are pressed but nothing happens!

I'm from Birmingham.
Anyways, picked up the car today. The front brake problem has been fixed; apparently the pad hadn't been fitted properly.
Only had it for a few hours, but have well and truly fell in love with it. Everything feels so well put together, even down to the indicator stalks! Drives an absolute dream. Love how much power its got. Loving the aircon! Love how the leather steering wheel feels. Just love it, lol.
