i get 340 max out my 1.4 petrol and you get 330 out of the 1.8T
i must be doing somthing wrong! I dont drive like a loon or anything and you would think the 1.4 pertol was economical but i am beginning to think not :?

The 1.8T is not a very thirsty engine at all for the performance you get. Most i've got out of a tank was 370 miles 25% Town driving and 75% sat at 80 on the Motorway with the climate on the whole time, so i think 400 on a tank is possible. Would definitely expect a 1.4 to do better on petrol consumption, have you taken them on a long motorway cruise? Would expect at least 400 plus then. Heard a few rumours the 1.8T has found it's way into the Polo, anyone got any ideas as to when it will be launched?

I remember reading a car magazine saying it will come out in spring - summer 2005.
Will be the Polo GTi??

I test drove the Seat Ibiza TDi 130 yesterday and that did an average of 36.7mpg after some serious heavy footed driving. It is a seriously fast car and has immense torque at every gear. When they put this engine in the Polo, we should all unify and subsidise the price because we all know what VW are like when they know they have a winner!

I have a theory that scouts from from VW read this forum and make us wait even more- throw in the odd spy picture now and again so they can make the GT and GTi more illusive. Come on VW, chop chop!!

I wouldn't be supprised if they did read the forum.

I know someone who works in London for a large record company. Part of his job is to surf the net to get opinions and feedback on who's listening to what. He usually heads straight for the forums.

Went to get some diesel yesterday. The range computer was showing 0 miles and i had done 405 miles on a full tank (that was filling it up pressing that valve thing in so you can get another £4 in). 43MPG average over the 405 miles.

Damn.. Managed my best yet... 57.6 MPG!

Wasn't snails pace, but not too fast. It's getting better I think.

It’s amazing how economical your car can be when you have passengers who are afraid of speed!

A couple a weeks a go I started putting BP ultimate in and my economy has gone from around 42mpg to 45-47mpg! Last tank when adding what was left on the range with quarter of a tank I was heading for 500miles on a tank full, so im really impressed with it and the car has just hit the 12k mark.

The good BP stuff can be weird, I used to put it in and found MPG worse, but it actually seems better now! :?

But it does feel smoother and the diesel fumes from the exhaust do seem cleaner. It will be interesting to try the Shell diesel Extra stuff when it comes to London (Shell reckon end of the year) and it won't be any more expensive than normal diesel.

I've been driving all over the place this weekend down to stonehenge and glastonbury... I'm on 405 miles not in reserve yet! Not bad for a petrol motor :D :D
