Brake disc and pad recommendations

Post by julian »

Hi,

I need to change my front discs and pads and was wondering if someone could offer advice on the best make to get.

I have a 1.6 MkIV, '98.

I am not looking for any high performance top of the range parts, just standard, does the job well and will last parts.

I was thinking of getting from either EuroCarParts or GSF.

ECP only have ATE pads in stock for £13.25 and they have ATE and EICHER discs, £11 for solid and £21/£14 for vented. Is it worth the extra for vented?

As for GSF there seems to be a lot more choice and more difficult to see what is what. Anybody got theirs from GSF? Which would you recommend?

Thanks so much for any help that you can give,
Julian.

At the end of the day, if its a standard motor you best sticking to solid discs & a generic 'off the shelf' pads.

when i got my brakes renewed I got the vented discs as im pretty sure thats what comes as standard for the 1.6.

But I think you should go all out and get some Carbon fibre discs hehe with wicked grooves that say UK-polo.net in them :P just kidding
