After many test drives of other inferor cars drove a polo gti less than 2 weeks ago for the first time. I will be picking mine up on saturday 20th from from vw in lough. Its a red ( cos thats the fastest colour

) 3 door Xreg with 26K on the clock. I am looking forward to being in the polo gti club,makes a change from the usual. If anyone has any suggestions as to what to do to it for a couple of hundred quid then let me know. Cheers aDaM.

only 26k? barely run in!
you could change the standard main beam and sidelight bulbs cos they look quite yellow compared to the amazing xenons!

xenon is dipped beam but main and sideligths are halogen. He means change them to 'xenon look' halogens to match the xenon dipped

Thought the whole thing was xenon.never had a car with them before .How much is that likely to cost ? and will it make it go much faster

welcome to the club

to make it a bit quicker you could go for the following :

Stage1. Filter and Exhaust - wont give you a great power increase but will make the engine rev better (plus it will sound faster

). Try Powerflow for the exhaust (as they can build one to your exact spec). A good filter for the GTi is the BMC one as it has a direct cold air feed to it (with te filter being at the back of the engine induction kits with out the cold air feed will suck in hot air from the engine bay, which will lose power.). also try a Green or K&N replacement filter element.

Cost Â£200-500 (approx)

Stage2. Cams & Powerbox/Chip - Starting to get more serious now. Cams are good for between 10 and 25hp. You can buy different spec cams, the best power gains will lead to bogging down at low revs and a lumpy idle though, speak to Kent Cams. Having the ECU remapped or replaced will give you the best out of all the mods you have just done. speak to Superchips.

Cost Â£500-Â£700 (approx)

Stage3. NOS - Fitting a NOS system is good for reliabilty (as long as the jets arent too big) as the power is on demand. you push a button and get 50hp extra. \/\/inner.

Cost Â£500-Â£700 (apporx)

Alterantivly you could spend Â£500 on sorting the suspension and brakes with some sports springs and dampers paired up with some uprated pads. Also dont forget tyres! this wont give you sany extra power in a straight line but can make you quicker round a track as you will be able to brake later and corner faster.

Well, sorry m8 but Kent doesn't make any cams for the Gti..
Also, Supechips doesn't chip the Gti either...they blame it on the e-gas...(figures)..
Other than that, there is a thread somewhere....

Reprofilling cams only changes duration and does nothing for valve lift.Its a "destructive" process.You remove material to give longer duration.In an engine like the Gti's (as i have already discussed with Dr. Schrick) longer duration doesn't "agree" with the EPC.Also, never forget the intake cam is VARIABLE

.Don't really know how regrinding would affect that

.And finally, its common knowledge that "regrinds" give far less horsepower than new cast ones, since they are just a compromise

Superchips have hinted that they have someting in the development pipeline for the 1.6 16v gti engine! Reprofiling works extremely well, if done properly!, if you go onto any german forum for the polo or lupo gti there are a lot of places which" improve" the powergains from the schrick cams mentoined and the germans swear by it, I don't think schrick are too impressed with people feckin' about with there products!

It would probably be helpful if as many gti owners as possible emailed to enquire about a superchip they might look into it more!
