I everyone
driving home tonight, taking of from a intersection in first the car felt like it was in second or third, continued on, third gear then fourth stop at the next intersection and first felt weird and stuttered again like it was trying to take of in second. was able to get going slightly then stop to see what the problem is. No first gear or reverse. We in reverse the car wants to go forward then will ty to stall? First doesnt feel right like if the gear selector isnt selecting...Jumped on the net and found this fourm shortly after tryin to find other problems with polo gearboxes on the web.
The car is a 2004 polo twist with around 42000 miles.
What do people think it is? Should i ring AA VW or a local garage? Not sure what the problem may be. Is it gearbox, pedal box, master cylinder clutch cable etc.. Any help would be cool, bit pissed off really sorry for the long post rant

no reverse or first gear
hi panda,
thanks for the reply.
just checked the car and i now have a flat tyre as well.. hahaha when it starts to go wrong it goes wrong.
Spoke with VW and have booked it in for a half hour inital check. Asked about problems that are known with this model of polo, for example the pedal box which they are aware of, and might even make a good will jesture towards any repairs that are related to that, although they did mention that it is a flow on effect from the clutch on it way out. Has anyone come across this before?
Other than what other problem i dont know what else to say. Live in london so car in parked on the street so a little difficult to diagnose.
If i engage the clutch the gear lever felt like it would go into first but when try to take off the car would feel like it was in the wrong gear, and take off in a laboured state. If i tried to put it into reverse, the car would move forward not back ward. Unable to test now as have a flat. (spare wheel was stolen from the car not to long ago and never replaced)
On another forum it was mentioned that this was a common problem with the polo around release (pedal box clutch), has anyone heard of this in the UK? VW are aware of it.
What can i expect the respose from VW to be. e.g. Sorry mate was the clutch, will replace the pedal box but its going to cost you £700 for a new clutch etc....
cheers
