New speakers

Post by neap38 »

Could anyone tell me what size the speakers are in a polo and what higher quality/ power speakers would drop straight in?

A cheap place to buy speakers would also be appreciated.

cheers.

I am also looking to replace the speakers in the front of my polo, I have been recommended caraudiodirect.co.uk, who I used with my last car and they were brilliant.

My question now is, do I again go for speakers run straight off the head unit (45w per channel) or do I go for an amp and run from the head unit on high inputs as I have only got an RCA output for the sub.

Will I achieve better sound quality with the amp despite using the high inputs?

You have to consider the wire you will be using aswel, as this believe it or not is prob the most important part of the system!

I found that out with some 6x9's in my previous car :D

its tricky with the polo isn't it though? the wiring all goes through the grommet in the doors which screws in and out, I will not be able to feed any more cables through the existing hole in that as I have already fitted CL which used the only remaining hole on that grommet.

Ideas? can I leave the existing cable through the doors to the speakers and just crimp onto them cables? What cable do you suggest?

Putting new wire through the grommets is such a pain in the back side!!!

However it is the only way to go, I would take my time with it because it can get veryyyyyy frustating!

If your worried about losing quality through lack of RCA outputs and high inputs get one of these:

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /3960.html

It's on my list of things to buy, as I'm currently running two amps with only one pre-out :(

In terms of wiring up the front speakers, either disconnect the old wires from the terminal block and re-connect the old ones, or drill neat holes in place (on the terminal NOT the door), and run the new wire straight through.

Thanks Tim, that looks like a handy little device I may have to get one some time. But the speaker upgrades may now be put on hold as I want to get some cosmetic bits and bobs out the way first and get the engine check light off :)

Thanks to everyone else who has replied also, you guys have all been a big help since I got my Polo and I would really hope that I can one day return the favor :D
