Ouch!! Gti has gone in for its gearbox, finally!!!

Post by clarky_86 »

alright guys,

ive finally got my gti booked in for its gearbox to be mended.

Ive gone through a VW dealer to have it done with a 2 years parts and labour warranty. And am having my current box repaired with seals, bearings, oil etc etc. with new clutch kit and release bearing.

Thought id get it all done whilst the gearbox was out.

i got a few quotes all about the £1000 mark ( all inclusive with VAT )

Volkswagen wanted just under £1100 with courtesy car.

Seems alot but im desperate to get my car sounding normal again.

please no one tell me im being scammed, lol. its booked in now so im getting it done no matter what, haha.

The nice thing bout VW doing it means youll get a full factory reconditioned box, and not a rebuild - best choice!

Ouch...thats a heluva lot of coin!

The issue with VW factory recon boxes is they are renowned for being pants!....Im sure someone on here has gone through two "factory recons"....

I think my gearbox rebuild including a clutch and oil etc came to around £600

ah, im glad someone has payed the same amount.

im getting my box reconditioned as apposed to another already reconditioned one, and my one being discarded.

i felt that was the best option, and the cheapest.

if it breaks they will have it back ,and if it breaks again they will have it back, and if it breaks again they will have it back................. and i wont pay a penny if its within the 2 year warranty.

Thats what warranty is for, so i will make the most of it. :D
