please help

Post by POLOIRL »

I was just out driving around and when I was stopped at the lights all of a sudden the revs began to drop and it felt like the car was about konk out. When I started driving along the car really strugled and started chugging, then the orange engine managment warning light came on on the dash. I flashed on and off and then stayed on. The throttle was very unresponsive. When I got home I got out of the car while the engine was running and the exhaust didnt sound healthy at all!!

I have no clue about engines so could anyone tell me whats the story?!

It was running perfectly all day yesterday untill the revs went wierd out of no where!

Am I damaging the car by driving now today?

The car just got serviced on tuesday and its 57,000miles.

I would assume at this point your polo is a petrol model... this said I would suggest one of your coil packs has packed up. It would fit the symptoms you're writing about.

It should be covered under warranty, if your car is out of warranty I would take it up with VW anyway... it is a well documented problem with all VAG (VW, Audi, Skoda) petrol engines.

Hope it helps

PS: If the car is chugging - by driving it, you can do some damage.

i had this problem with my mk4 seat ibiza. does the car shake when its at idle? with my seat they stripped and rebuilt the engine, changed numerous parts and the vw and seat mechanics couldnt work out what the problem was.

sounds also like it could be the throttle body clogged up, take off your air and have a look at it, if its all black and tarry take it off and give it a clean with some thinners or carb cleaner
