HIDS not an option really, what about bulbs?
Hi, i want the HID sort of look but dont want the bother of fitting them or paying for fitting as it sounds complicated with the ballasts and everything, so im wondering, are the cheap alternative of white bulbs anything on them?do they look tacky? What are the phillips bulbs like? Thanks
Vag parts do a blue buld kit, got them on mine. They take away that yellow colour of normal bulbs.
Just search blue bulb kit

I replaced the bulbs on my wife's Polo twice with Philips Vision Plus (+50%) but since one has failed again - these higher output bulbs have shorter lives, maybe only 3 years, I ordered Philips Extremes (+80%) from Power Bulbs - they send you a free set of blue'd side light bulbs. Remember the dip beam is H7 and the main beam is H1 (I've not had to replace the main beam bulbs since changing to Philips Vision Plus about 6 years ago).
I have factory fit HIDs on my Passat and they are not blue just very white - which the Vision Plus and Extreme are aiming to mimic in look and more importantly aim for (well not quite) in performance.

One point that I will make, and that is Philips and Osram have been in the auto bulbs business for a long time - but maybe that does not make them best or worth the extra cash, these unknown branded ones that Power Bulbs and most other bulb on-line shops are selling are probably inferior quality. As I have said already, the light output from normal bulbs is a balance between cost performance and reliability, once the filament is burned at higher temperatures the light output increases but the service life decreases quite dramatically. Now if all you want is fancy looking lights that will probably not last for very long - then you have chosen well enough, but if you want brighter (they will also look fancier) lights that will last a reasonable time - useful when you need to use them at night, then you should consider digger deeper into your wallet and buying some of the best available.
HIDS4U have an H7 kit in for £99. Thinking about getting one. What re they like to fit then dino? also whats the best colour temperature to go for? Cheers
