A brief screeching noise

Post by ticki »

Hi all

I get 'A brief screeching noise' when i start up. sounds like something to do with the starter motor.

Any ideas?

It'll be the starter motor as said, I get this now and again, and will be replacing it when £££ allows, It can f**k the Fly wheel etc.

to isolate the aux belt, spray it with water before starting it, just a fine mist of water over it, if it doesnt screech then you'll know its the belt :)

thanks all.

If i turn the key with some finesse i can avoid the screech. so
baileysufc sounds just like what you have.

aparantly this is quite common with all vw's mine does it every so often my mate gets it on his rallye and mk4 golf i dont see the point in paying £160ish to have it fixed if it only happens once every 2-3 months

true, mine happens every start up. There wasnt a gradual build up either, It all just started happening.

Could an electrical surge cause this problem in the first place?
