Hello To All ... HELP REQUIRED

Post by garethmk1 »

Dear All,

Greetings to you, as you can see I am new to this forums - so hello to all.

Just to give you some background I've had VW's for as long as I can remember. At the moment I currently have a Mk4 Polo 1.4 CL, Corrado 16v, Mk2 Golf 16v GTi, Mk1 Golf GTi (16v Engine Swap) and a Mk5 Golf GTi Edition 30.

I've had a small problem with the central locking on the Polo in so far as it has stopped working. I am familiar with the vacuum pump set up - but throughout years of VW ownership have not encountered any problems with this in the past. Firstly, the driver door lock packed up, it rotates all the way around but does not engage the locking system. Now ... the passenger door activates the lock but not the central locking ??? Any ideas what the problem is as I'm currenlty scratching my head !

Second question, can I fit a new Polo 1.8T GTi Grille to the Mk4, my girlfriend really wants a similar grille to the Edition 30 I own (albeit the Polo GTi model) - I understand there may be some fettling required but will it fit correctly in terms of width, angle and height ?

I'll post some photos of some of my cars soon - I'll hopefully be a regular here ... so speak to you soon.

Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Gareth

Hi Gareth,

Welcome to the Site! :D

Looks like you are a lucky sole to have so many classic VW's to play/tinker with!

With your drivers door lock, you may need a repair kit to fix it, easily obtainable. Probably get one from a Dealer (ouch!) or try ebay.

Ebay-Lock Repair Kit

Hope that helps a bit! :D

Hi mate,
The lock kit shown above has all the parts you would need to fix your lock.
I have had both locks (drivers and passengers) go and on both occassions it has been the cage bit on the end of the paddle which has broken, this often leads to the lock being able to open and not close or vice versa.
I would take your lock apart and find out which part has broken and then contact Eurocar Parts, the part you need will be less than a pound usually.
Hope this helps.
