1.8t....which engines do people use?

Post by tegwin »

Just curious...

Which engine models do people use for the 1.8T conversion on the polo?

I have been offered an AJQ engine...but not sure what that actually means..

Anyone in the know?

AJQ is the 180bhp version.

Used in the TT and A3 1.8T I believe.

The Cupra 20vt is the more popular choice though is it not?

Yup the BAM engine is the one to go for unless you are really really really lucky and find an engine and ecu out of the last of the old TT's, the ones with the black roofs, they have 240bhp but cant remember the engine codes

the cupra engine (AYP) is the best choice because its the most compatible as the chassis is basically the same between the two cars so you can use more parts so everything is far easier to change over...

At the end of the day both have been done but like tim said there is a reason why the AYP is a more popular choice & its not like the AYP is more easily available than a BAM

BAM engines obviously have a larger turbo already fitted so it depends which works out cheaper (getting the BAM engine to be compatible or whacking a k04 on an AYP block along with a few other bits & bobs e.g. injectors, larger MAF housing etc...nothing big)

Personally id get the AYP engine to be safe, its easily upgradeable & at the end of the day if you want big horses a k03 or k04 just wont be up to the crack so you will need to go BT either way
