Window switch

One of the switches on the drivers side (2x switch bank) has packed up, wont let me put the window down but will let me put it back up.

I am getting a new switch from VW tomorrow, but it is only the switch module, not the whole thing.

Is there a way to remove the window switch unit without taking the door card off ???

Had the same issue with mine...

and yes the switch module can be removed without taking the doorcard off....

You need a really thin but strong metal strip....A metal Rule would be ideal!

Slide it under the front edge of the plastic switch unit and push the plastic spring clip in and lift the unit out....

Did you buy the entire switch module, or just one switch?

How much did it cost?

Before you go shellin out on a switch, check you dont have a broken wire in the rubber boot between the door and A pillar, i had a similar problem and it was a bust wire fortunatly the previous owner had bought two switches the day before i bought it and fitted them, how kind of him

the switch was working intermittently, I have got a new switch module now to replace the broken one. It was Â£15.45 from VW which i didnt think was too bad

stupid question but does the switch module include the surround as mine is getting a little tatty and wondered if the cover is a seperate item

This is the switch that i took out of the car, i think its easy enough to see the problem with it:

Water damage from where it catches water when the window is open.

The new one works a treat

I managed to get the switches out with just a flat bladed screwdriver (without taking the door card off). It caused absolutely no damage whatsoever.

Ah so you didn't replace the whole switch unit? (both windows switches, the central locking switch and the housing).

It cost Â£15 odd for just that switch?!

yeah it was Â£15.45 just for that switch module, not the whole thing.

I thought that was pretty cheap, it was well in excess of Â£30 for a single switch module for my old new beetle (I though i was getting two swtiches for that price. lol)

That's expensive if you ask me, it's saying that the wholr driver's side unit would cost about Â£40-50!

Your correct tim. The trim is 10 quid, CL switch 25 quid, each window switch is 15 quid.
