Should i buy a gti?

Post by avfcnutter »

I hear of lots of problems on the 6n2 gti. e.g. gearbox etc, but i really fancy one in a few months time, would you guys who own the cars or who have owned them recomend them, or should i put my hard earned somewhere else?

Thanks

The gearbox problem does happen but the GTI gets a lot of bad press for it, it's not as bad as it seems. There's probably only around 50 owners who are on here/Club Polo or been on here - and remember there were just over 3000 cars. Just maybe keep a little money aside in case, and if it never happens treat yourself to something nice

I’ve owned a GTI for a couple of months now and love it. Defiantly recommend one. Have a test drive of one and see if it grabs you.

Take it you’re a Villa fan – where abouts in Brum you from?

i have had mine 2 and a half years and i love it. its the best car ive owned so far and i dont think i will ever sell it. The shape and the interior look modern even now, the dials were way before their time.
Buy 1 mate u wont look back.

Buy one, they are worth the money you spend on them. If it wasnt for the gearbox they would be an amazing car!

Ive owned mine since January, and came from a Golf GT TDI and i find it much better to drive and its so much fun to drive. A tad slower than the golf due to less torque, bit it makes up for it in enjoyment

wow, thanks for all the replies, i think ive decided its what i want, i have a 6n2 1.4 mpi at the moment, love driving it but the gti really appeals to me being more powerful and more sprorty. Just saving every penny i have to try and afford the insurance, as im still 17, but hoping when i turn 18 and have a years driving under my belt and on my dads policy i can get it below £2500. As i pay £1500 for my group 7 insurance 1.4 atm im hoping this is achievable.

Overseer i am a villa fan yes :D are u? From Bromsgrove, yourself?

Thanks

I wouldn't let the gearbox put you off getting one.

I had mine for three and a half years, and I drove it like the Lord God of GTi intended. Never had any major issues with the gearbox.

I had mine about 2 and a half years I think and I had no trouble with it at all.
