Clutch Kit Again

Post by Tim_GTi »

I know threads like these pop up nearly every week, but I need clarification.

I need another clutch, the one I had installed a month ago turned out to be an awful recon one, so I'm getting a new one fitted when my gearbox gets repaired this/next week.

I rang VW direct and they quoted me £194.60 for parts plus exchange for a re-con clutch. Which is twice as much as I plan to pay, and reconditioned kits have no use for me. Absolutely useless.

I've looked at all previous threads like these, but can't get any solid sources/part numbers for new kits.

I'm looking for a BRAND NEW clutch kit, that can get to me in under a week, Can anyone help?

I think 200 is how much I paid for my new clutch kit, my mechanic got it for me on the day, but no part numbers unfortunately.

Yeh I spoke to vagparts and they called it at £197 for everything including vat and delivery.

I then rang VW up again and spoke to someone a little more in the know, who told me that the 'brand new' clutch kits they supply are actually reconditioned along the line, so that is what the previous worker was referring to when I spoke to them.

Looks like it will be a VW 'brand new' clutch kit then. Which comes to £174.62 after my exchange, unless anyone disagrees with the above stated?

Surely it makes more sense to get a Sachs or LUK or Valeo?

I can only say good things about the Sachs clutch kit I have. It feels sooo much better than standard.

If I couldn't find either. Believe me if could, I'd buy one.

I rang VW and they told me what I previously stated.

I rang Vagparts and they can offer the same, except for the exchange (so a little more expensive).

I couldn't get through to Europarts.

I rang GSF and they said they weren't sure whether they could get hold of anything applicable, but they would check and ring me back, which they didn't.

And I rang Gwent VW and they said they couldn't find anything, and to ring VW direct.

So what other options am I left with? :(

If anyone has a local garage that can get hold of them so easily PLEASE let me know and I'll ring them myself and ask them for their supplier!

whats the urgency? Surely would be better to stall the job for a week than pay through the nose for everything this week?

I clock alot of miles, and my gearbox is getting wrose and worse by the day. I'm getting my gearbox rebuilt, so the longer I leave it, the worse it will get.

It will take a day for the clutch to be delivered from VW, and will be a couple of days wait for the gearbox centre to fit me in.

I'm sure you can see my urgency now.

What I don't understand though is how easy and cheap it seems to get a clutch from information on here, yet when ringing around myself it is twice as hard and twice as expensive lol.

From spending a day ringing around myself I havent heard the words SACHS VALEO or LUK once. Seems like it's a 'you get what you get, direct from VW ' kinda thing.

Nice one! The difference is amazing when you first put your foot on the clutch.

Good to hear you've sourced one :)
