Dashboard rattles, air duct?

I'm really happy with the car and it's given me no problems no far, other than a dashboard rattle which was fixed by the dealer (apparently VW know about this common problem, it's caused by an air duct going under the dash and VW have supplied dealers with a retrofit part to correct the problem if you ask).

I will be speaking to my dealer about this tomorrow. But has anyone else had this retrofit part fitted yet. Its the first I've even heard of it!!

VW have a serious communication problem!!

I think I have this rattle too but I have found it's a switch on the passenger side under/near the glovebox that when I hold it the rattle goes away

if the layout of the dash internals is similar to the skoda fabia then you might find that this retro fit part is a lump of foam

On the fabia the trick is to remove the air vents in the centre and look to the back of the dash there is a bracket that needs a piece of foam wedging underneath it to stop it rubbing against the surface to which it is joined.
To diagnose if this is the problem or not if the noise comes from the back of the dash near the screen in the centre give it a firm thump

and if it stops it then that might be the problem.

I've been listening hard for a while now and had the whole centre of my dash off where the radio goes etc and NOTHING behind there is causing that sound.

This is definitely a different sort of sound to the Fabia's rattle/squeak that owners describe. It sounds like it's coming from the smooth part of plastic that runs along the windscreen (or under it). I think it could be the air vents underneath, however the dealer can't find any faults and it's very hard to get at. It's not so much a rattle though, it's more of a little bang when going over bumps and doesn't really seem to be heat dependant.

It maybe something small and I love the car, but it's annoying and I fixed all my other rattles.. It's a solid car, and I'm not going to despair or sell the car over this, but just wish the living being in the dash would move out as I don't want the radio on ALL the time. For every problem there is ALWAYS a way of fixing it, just guess we need the thinking caps on again if it is to go.
