My clutch release bearing just went big time at 70!

Post by Trottagti »

Was whinning away for a while and had it booked in to taylors my local garage as vw want to much to do it, and yeah driving along then suddenly it felt like sum1 had put loadsa ball bearings inside my gearbox like real gerky and crunchy noises and whinning!

I hope its just my bearing thats broke up, what else could happen!

Im selling my gti once its fixed its going wrong all the time and i cant afford the up keep its getting silly now, that makes my total bill now 1500quid on repairing it at 40,000 miles! not good car, engine, gearbox!

If the release bearing is knackered, you'll hear it when the clutch is depressed only. It's a consistant whirr.

Sounds like your 'box bearings are knackered, I'd stop driving it til it gets fixed, because they could jsut pop and shatter your housing and all sorts.

when the clutch is in the whinning and noise stops, and then when i drive off its crunching, it selects gears ok! if the release bearing breaks up could it be all the parts crunch together?

Sounds like the release bearing slider has sheared off and is free spinning on the input shaft...

Stop driving it and get it looked at!

When was the clutch last replaced?

Your better off getting it allbought as a kit and done at the same time, saves so much on labour and individual priced items.

£900 seems abit steep mate, my box for my 1.0 was £550 and that was a recon box as mine was shagged, it literally exploded as it was whining for a good 6months so iam guessing £700 tops for a gti box
