Polo GTi or Lupo GTi?

Post by Aid1987 »

Hi, ive wanted a polo gti for a while now, but have recently started to consider getting a lupo gti instead because of the weight difference and supposedly having a better gearbox.

i know lupo gti's are more expensive, but i wont be getting either if these for a while but just wanted some advice on what you guys think.

i love the look of the polo all round, however im not keen on the rear of the lupo.

thanks.

Since this is a Polo forum and this has been posted in the Polo GTi section I think we can guess what the majority of people will say

Seriously though .. the advantage of having a Lupo is it's slightly faster and no gearbox headaches. Other than that, I prefer the Polo all round.

If you can find a lupo with the 6 speed box....then it would be an asome car, pretty tunable as well...

However, its a small car, you wont get much in the back....and I would imagine that on country roads it would not corner as well as the GTI....

I had the same problem as you....in the end I decided the lupo was just too small...

I can fit two bikes, camping equipment and two people inside the Polo...I bet you cant do that in a lupo!

The Lupo is just a bit too small for me. I think its cooler though, you don't see as many GTi's around as Polo's.

I would try and drive both and see what you prefer...

My thoughts are posted on Club Polo, where it seems there is a lot of Polo GTI bashing going on

Get both, saw them in half using the front end of the Lupo for the engine and gear box and the rear end of the Polo for the space. You could then cut the badge in half and have Popo written on the back. Now you don't see many of those beasts around.

Hard one, both have their +'s and -'s. A mint Lupo can look the dogs b*******s but it just doesn't have the practicality of a Polo. Although if you find a well looked after Mk5 GTI, there's not contest. I've only seen a handful of GTI pictures, but this is the best lupo i've seen.

Although i'd still have a Polo GTI if it were me, a Flash Red one 8)

I am a little bias with this, but love the Lupo GTI. When I was loking about I did try the Polo GTI and liked it, but when I tried the Lupo GTI I fell in love.

It suits me perfectly in terms of the size etc, but your best bet it to try them out as opinions can change or confirm your thoughts.

This is my 6 speed late 2002 GTI :D

Thats Jen's Lupo. Such a lovely person, she took me out in it also, a fantastic car.

That pic was taken at Inters this year, my car was almost oposite :P

On paper the Lupo does seem the more logical choice, but IMO there would be that small voice in your head that would suggest it's not such a great investment, compared to a slightly larger car.

They're damn cool though, but I just my prfer my polo:
