Refurbishing GTI BBS RXII alloys

Post by vw55raz »

i am in the process of refurbishing my alloys and i have 2 questions:

1. Apart from the vauxhall's gasket sealant where else can i get a seal from, because i went to the dealers and they had no clue what i was talking about.

2. Where can i get the centre rim peice shot blasted and powder coated? Im based in london so if anyone knows any local place, please let me know

Thanks

Provided you make sure the mating surfaces are clean....Could you not use any high grade silicone sealant? It has to bond to the material, cope with corrosive chemicals, fair bit of heat and vibration....should be ok...

You can also buy general purpose gasket compound, but the stuff I have seen is red...and would look w**k

got the centres blasted and powder coated for 80 quid!! just need to find the seal. So can sump sealant work as well as gasket sealant. By the way is it vauxhall head gasket seal?

The reason gasket cement was used by bstardchild in the original DIY thread was, I believe, because it was non-acidic.

To he perfectly honest I wouldn't spend too long stressing over it. I never sealed any of the ones I've refurbished.

VW sump sealant will be fine. Its just a rubberised gasket, and tis not that expensive either.
