1.2's

How do you tell the difference between a 55bhp and a 65bhp 9N ?.
Are there any external differences so you can tell which one you're looking at ?.

I think it only the badges on the engine that are different?

The only difference is as Scorpio says the engine covers. The 1.2 55 just have a black plastic with vw embossed in it. And the 65 has 12V in chrome with vw badge on it. :)

Am I right in thinking the 55bhp version was only available from 03 onwards, when the FSI came in?

If that's the case then if it has the old style rear wiper, it should be a 65?

Although I may be talking complete rubish

The 55bhp 3 cylinder engine is far noisier than the 65bhp 4 cylinder engine . In fact it sounds like an old london taxi cab LOL !!!!!

Sorry mate, you're totally wrong there, as the 65bhp 1.2 is also a 3-pot job. Main difference is the 65bhp is a 12-cyl/DOHC as opposed to the 55's 6-cyl's/SOHC. Makes it a touch more refined, but still gives it that unique note when you rev it. :)

I have the 1.2 E 55Bhp and my car is soo quiet you can't hear it running when it's idling.

I also know that it had the old back wiper not the aero one as I had to replace this myself.

The easiest way to tell the old (facelift) polo fomr the recent one is the colour of the Logo on the steering wheel... e.g mine is blue and white with a silver ring whereas the new ones are black and white with the silver ring...
