I pay £380, for a 1.4SE 2007.. I'm 19.

Fully comp. with my mum as main driver with Direct Line in a 'low crime' area.

Churchill wont insure you with any mods if your under 25. When I had my angel eyes on (for the full 24 hours) I phoned them just to see how much and they said they couldn't insure me. Quite cheap though but useless if you have/declare mods.

I'm with Direct line, have been since I started driving. No-no claims. fully comp. 18 years old with a 1.0 6n2 2001 polo = £2200ish :/

I rang up the other week to declare my HID's which I fitted and my black badges etc and the guy said he would enter it on the system but not to worry about ringing in for things like that. Only major things like engine, alloys, suspension and exhaust.

I thought HID's were a significant modification?? guess Direct line don't care..

lol direct dont allow modifications untill you're on a policy once 25 years old so I dont see how you're declaring stuff already?

made a mistake, my insurance is £1200 not £2200.

Plus, I did declare the HID's and the guy said not to worry, only major modifications :S Weird..

speaking of insurance i just got a quote from HIC on a 6n2 gti...£2600

i thought that was a bit steep. 20yo, 3 years ncb...although it was with mods...exhaust, map, manifold and coilovers...o well.

as to now, a 6n2 1.0l 3rd party is £475 with direct line. whole family is on that, and all named drivers earn own ncb. however, word of caution is the fact that despite this, the only way of actually getting your ncb as a named driver would be to insure your own car with direct line. They won't even quote me for a mk2 golf  so, theoretically you have a ncb as a named driver, but it's all in the hands of direct line. they can decide to charge you what they bloody well like, because they know that you need them to get your ncb!

i hate insurance companies. although so far direct line have been very good.

Yep, that's what they've done to me. I'm not taking it though, I'm going else where very soon.

I'm in a serious dilemma with Direct line, i'll explain.

I took out a policy with them a couple of months ago, when I was quoted £845 Third party Fire & Theft with legal protection insured as a named driver with me and a provisional licence. Just to confirm I wasn't going to get hammered when I passed, I check what the price was when I passed. It flagged up as £865 or so, so I thought ok thats fine as its not the cheapest quote I got but its a good idea that it's not going to rise much. 2 months or so down the line here I am.

Checking the policy to update soon (test is on 15th), I checked to make sure what it was going to be. I was in for a shock. They want £1550! Personally I think this is outrageous, how on earth can the price rocket almost twice the price in less than 3 months? I live in one of the nicest area's of my town, there is extemely low crime and the car is parked on the driveway every night!

At this rate i'm not going to have enough to insure it until around christmas, let alone lower it and put winters on like I wanted too :(

Anyone got any advice?

I take it you didn't have anything in writing that said it would originally be £865?

Only internet quotes from them sent via email which were when I was messing around with it, they have expired but they exist none the less.

I had a good outcome in the end, rang up direct line and they changed the policy - no excess charge on top!

:D
