hi there have just bought a 1983 1.1 polo coupe, in mint condition but there are a few little niggles that need sorting, needs a wheel bearing, easily sorted, but there is a problem with the carb it will not tick over changed gasket between carb and manifold sealed it and no difference, the idle adjustment screw does nothing, drives fine but stalls when comming to a halt its a HB engine . the guy i bought it off told me that he had it checked by a carb specialist and was told that the carb needs replaceing badly worn. as i have never had a polo before looking for a bit of advice on what to do next.

hi m8 thanks for the reply, its the early model before the idle valve ,SOLEX carb with manual choke.hardhitter wrote:It could be the idle cut off valve not working correctly. You could probably get a second hand carb from a scrappy and try that. It definately seems like a carb problem to me, quite common too. I'm not sure if it's a weber or pierburg, as the latter seemed to give more problems.

yes i think a new carb will be on the cards,i hope to take it for its MOT next week so we will see what happens! have been given a price of £150 for a new webber from e.c.p, is that good? dont want to spend a fortune on it as its not my daily driver, its mainly for the missus.Phoenix wrote:use this as a good excuse to get some twin webers
