IV MADE MY REAR TOP STRUT BRACE, PICIS! nearly finished!

Post by Trottagti »

Well as i cant find ones for sale iv made my own out of aluminium and laived it and threaded it myself aswell as polished it to a chrome finish!

Image

First i cut a piece of solid 6mm ali to this shape and drilled the hole and shanfered the edges!

Once my bar arrived, inch ali solid bar. I shaped the end on the laith at work and a smart tool for the rounded edge. there is another bar the same as this but with a bored out whole for the threaded part to sit in very very snuggly!

Image

Then i turned down the end and threaded one end

Image

Once the fiddly bits were done i fitted them together for a trial fit and il get the guys at work to put some heavy weld from the tig on there to beef up the look, i like alot of neat weld lol!

Polished all the nuts and parts to a mirror sheen but once its welded and had the large bolts on the thread to tighten the bar up like the omp ones il weld a cover plate over the nuts and then it will be super tough and tought, Not finished yet but pics are cummin but its progress!

Image

I have very large nuts haha, sorry! I have bigger nuts coming from the polishers tomorow that tighten the bar that pics just to show how it will work once fitted on, double nut tighten then welded plate over the nut!

Looks great so far mate 8). I've never come across one on the market for the 6N2, how much do they usually retail for?

Will a sturut brace made out of aluminium acutally do anything for the handling?

Ali has a tendancy to bend when put under load...

Nice bit of engineering though!
