Post by speedsix »

Just wondering guys, when u install the K&N air filter, is there any way of installing it so that the original engine cover can go back on?

Can you guys confirm that this video is proof that the engine cover can stay on with an induction kit? Cos im not too technical with engine stuff!

That looks like its the 1.2 engine out of the fox. I have 1.2l polo 2003. Engine is completely different (looking) to that. so probably a different engine code

Is it the 1.2 engine your trying to fit it too?
Doubt you could keep it on without cutting substantial amounts off!

Not 100% sure though

Am I the only one thinking that filter is "all show no go"? Might sound better, at the cost of a negative impact on performance and fuel economy. Anyone got any pics of the stock 1.2 intake setup? That's just going to draw in hot air from the engine bay.

The stock intake setups on the newer (9n onwards) polos are very efficient, and I don't think any aftermarket kits bar a BMC CDA (modified to use the stock intake pipe) offer any gain. The stock airbox on the TDis and 9n3 GTI flow enough for >200 BHP.

I don't see the point pesonally. Just my 2p.

I had to take engine cover to fit mine, cos they sit on the TB, cant take the airbox off the engine cover and fit the cover on aswel as the K&N either.
Sounded really good, but no performance increase. All sound and no go lol.
It blew 2 lambda sensors when mine was on. Less MPG cos you tend to drive more foot to the floor to get the noise.

Stock intake on the 1.2 is the airbox on the top of the engine. with intake pipe taking air in from the front of the bonnet, Seems like a more efficient system than the K&N system.
Especially with that/my (small) engine it will give no performance gains, just noise if that is what you want!
