My local VW extortionist wants £22 inc VAT for the sender and seal.... that sounds a bit excessive...
How much should I be paying?

Yeah, got a new o-ring with it so replaced aswell.

If this is broken does it stop the water temperature gauge registering a temperature? Think this bust in my girlfriends MK4

Yup...the temperature will not register atall... mine seems to have no temperature..then pop up to norm...then bac down again

Yeh mine was really unreliable before change. Kept dropping and dancing and could never give a proper reading

Did anyone notice a drop in MPG while the sender was playing up? Replaced mine now and im getting a few more miles for my money.

That is a logical thing to assume..
The engine temp sender talks to the ECU and will help control the injection etc...

It probably did, but I got it changed to fast to notice any major changes.

ask for it for trade price at vw worked for me :D was bout 18quid
