Anyone use genuine VW roof bars?

Post by fivetones »

As title, anyone using them on their 9N? Any good?

Anyone use them to transport a bike?

I imagine the VW ones are just as good as the Thule, and I had no issues with the Thule ones and a bike - plus with the Thule racks you can probably use them on another car without spending too much extra cash, which could be handy.

Thanks for the replies.

However I'd prefer to go with the VW bars. Neater fit.

I know what you're saying and to be honest I haven't' compared the two directly. All I can say is that with the Thule I didn't have any marks and it was very solid. The feet aren't generic - they're made specifically for the 9N roof and mould to it exactly. They must use the same mounting points also.

Worth bearing in mind.

I presume you already have the VW ones?

I'm actually looking for some. I prefer the way the bars don't stick out. Bars are very un-aerodynamic at the best of times without extra bits.

yeah, that would be a good reason - they're bloody noisy too! I don't understand people that leave the bars on the whole time...

Yeah me neither.

I do love the way they look though on a slammed car though. :)
