turbo (1.4 TDi)

Post by pip_polo »

mine just randomly stopped working earlier. i was doing about 50 in 5th gear and put my foot down and it was accelerating about 1mph every 2 seconds(quite clearly no turbo on)

i pulled over, looked under bonnet all seemed ok. got in the car revved it a bit.
switched the engion off whilst i though about ringing the AA. then decided to brave it and go home, and when i set off i had a turbo again???

has anyone else had this?

i was actually scared

Boost leak?

Inspect the pipework perhaps.

Check your oil level mate, has it had an oil change recently? Do you run it down after ragging it?

Few things that can help prolong the life of your turbo, I take it that your using the correct oil too.

Do you know anyone with VAG-COM?

That would tell you the issue...

Could well be the MAF (mass air flow sensor) or a boost pipe is loose.

Sounds like you put it in Limp mode ???

You turn ign off, wait a bit, try again - and turbo back - Limp cleared..

Its possible to get this every now and again - if you get the error codes read out of the ecu it will tell you what put you in Limp....

VW charge big bucks to read out errors....

To be fair to then VW pay £000's for their diagnostic tools so have to get the money back some how..

It takes me seconds to plug in and read error codes.... so I never charge for this..

but pip_polo you are, unfortunately, miles away from me...

there must be someone closer to you who has vag com ?????

I used to get this in my transit van, just used to turn the ignition off wait a sec or two then turn it back on worked every time. But what do you expect from a “fix or repair dailyâ€

there might be i hole in the vacuum pipe that goes to the turbo. mine was caused by the hose rubbing against the brake servo hose, which resulted in car going into limp mode and the emmisions warning lamp coming on.
