weird noise slowing down...

Post by yosin »

Here we are, another slight problem.

Realised i had this funny noise whilst slowing down.

Sounds abit like metal turning on eachother and then again abit like something spinning and turning over but slowly making a groaning noise as it slows down.

so i thought can it be the brake pads going although there is still some brake left and when even i aint even applying the brakes?

Any help anyone please?

thanks :? :)

Have you deffinately checked both inner and outer pads all round the car?...sometimes the one you cant see wears dogin quicker than the outside one?...

Failing that....you might have a stone trapped agasint the disk....

I seem to get this too however it only seems to be a quieter version of what you have described and only if i am driving over a set of speedbumps constantly speeding up and slowing right down, is your problem constant or irregular as i dont get it that often.

inner pads? i dont know to be quite honest,i only checked the 1 that is against the discs? if thats the right one.

tom w : regards to speeding up and slowing right down i think thats when it most happens. The problem isnt really constant but it happens most when approaching junctions to slow right down to a halt and occasionally whilst driving.

So i dont know whether to take this to the garage and have it looked at then to find out they dont know the problem or just go and get a free brake test which may help find out if its the brakes pads or discs that needs changing?

There is a pad either side of the disk......so 2 per disk...you need to check them both!

I get a bit of noise on gentle breaking when the car is cold....but once the disks are nice and toasty, the noise should go away

If you can get a free break test, do that mate. Is it speed related then? does the clutch have any influecnce over it? Where does it sound like it's coming from?
