Ive had a look through past topics, and i cant see this covered.
My gti box has gone, along with other things! So i was looking at getting a new box but have thought about putting a tdi box in if it fits.
My friend has a 106 gti and put a diesel gearbox in,which works great.Ratios are different, but for cruising along the motorway its brilliant. Im taking it that because noone has spoke about it before they dont fit?
anyhelp appreciated. thanks
gti/tdi gearbox?

yes diesel boxes are generaly stronger i think, sometimes people use them on 20v conversions.mikeystill87 wrote:Ah you see his box jus bolted right on, thats really what im looking for. Am I right in saying diesel boxes are a bit stronger?
Really fed up of this machine sitting out the front!!
i dont think there is a diesel box that would bolt straigt on, im sure it would have already been done!

It sounds like a good idear but trust me its not
Been there tried that!
deisel polo boxes are no stronger infact there excatly the same as petrol boxes just different gear ratios and a different final drive!
the one i had lasted 15k (same as the petrol boxes ive used!) But had a horrible gear spread! 5th on the red line would do 100mph and 1st was far 2 short 2 use!!
Dont ask me which one i had i can only rember it was for a diesel, i only used it as it was orderd by mistake by my garage and i managed 2 get it by paying my parts department the surcharge that was on it! (£250 i think)
