Got my sound levals measured.

Post by wul3er »

I was in work today and speaking to the boss about going to enter a spound off competition to see what sort of noise im making. And he told me we a a sound level measure. So i checked it. Heres the outcome.

Im running 1 out of 4 of my 6*9's which is taking 200w.
The stereo goes to 60, i had it at 40.
Standard front mk5 speakers, pioneer 10" sub.

So outside the car (boot open) it measured 114db
Inside the car (boot and doors closed) it measured 125db.

To me this sounds really good and i cant wait to get the other 6*9's set up. Has any1 else had this done and what was the measures.

Come on... what has your 6*9 to do with spl?? Sound Pressure Level is generated by low frequency, the sub. Want more pressure, upgrade you sub and amp or the box. These are all connected. And what kind of measurer was it? Simple hand-held? Probably yes and those things generally are not accurate at levels beyond 110-115 dB... If you really want to compete, go to your local shop and let them have a look at your system. Also if they have Term-Lab or something, let them measure the real spl level in your car. 125db is really nothing extraordinary though... depending of course whether you into spl or sq. I'm planning to push out a. 134-136db with a single 10" sub next week after my installation is complete. And even thats nothing extraordinary. And i'm not even talking about pro levels... So my advice is that get more knowledge about sound, spl etc. It's not that simple! Good luck though!

Thats with 2 1000w 12" AudioBahn subs and 1 class D monoblock amp.

Had a pic somewhere after we tested it and shattered the rear screen, i'll see if i can find it

Also people, bare in mind that to gain +3dB, you have to double the power of the amps... So you get the idea of extremely good installation when someone bumps out 145dB with a single 12" sub, for example.

KarlM: what exact subs did you use and also what amp? Sounds to me that the number you got is pretty darn good (though Polo is a small car and higher spl numbers are a bit easier to get than, for example, in an Audi A6 :P )

Also if someone else has had their system measured with an acceptible gear(Term Lab etc.), please list your exact system and subbox type and the SPL number you got! Would be interesting to see, what works best in VW Polo.
