Is paint the best option?? IMHO no. Personally i dont think that the calipers look good painted in the red hammerite i think it just looks too aftermarket and dare i say it 'boy racer ish' if that makes sense? Up to now i have just given mine a really really good clean and they came up well despite the flakey bits however i think something defenately needs doing soon. is there such thing as a RAL code or simmilar for the 'GTI' red as id love to get mine re powder coated 8) 8) 8) I can see this causing debate but hey ho just my opinion! :)

The Foliatec kits are very good and the paint in them is an excellent OEM red. I used it on my old polo, and am going to do it again on the GTI when I get a day off that has some sun!

Red hammerite is good enough, but it is very red, where as the foliatec kits are an enamel based paint so they set and look more factory when hardened

I used the Halfords caliper paint stuff. Worked great, only used a third of the tin too.

Well my brakes were starting to look a little tired and the original red paint was starting to flake and in general........look crap LOL

So I spent the weekend rubbing down and repainting with a mix of red and black paint, to get the closest match to the original GTI red. I also got a friend to cut me up some "R" graphics to go on calipers also.

Final result
