Anyone with vagcom in the derby area? My ABS light wont go off and my gti is due an MOT.

Its probably one of your wheel sensors gone. They dont normally go on and stay on if its something intermittent

been under the back seats and disconnected both sides an reconnected to see if that would cure it but its still on.

How easy is it to replace a wheel sensor and how do i know which one is screwed?

VW want Â£70 just to run diagnostics on the car, i want to avoid that at all costs!

look for an independant garage. If you can find the code of the sensor, I can tell you which one it is. Its a simple allen key to remove and replace them.

ive found someone who can run diagnostics on the car (Â£25 + VAT) so i should be able to find out which sensor it is.

I'll post on here when i know the code.

You dont need diagnostics to work out which sensor is gone...

Just get a multimeter on them....spin the wheel...if it gices you an on/off/on/off signal then its fine...move onto the next one...

i bloody hope to god it is not the pump, that'll take all my money that i was going to spend on re-furbing my alloys!!!

I have VAGCOM and diagnosed my ABS light to a dodgy pump, however after a lot of research with error code numbers and part codes i found out that if the fault comes back with a dodgy pump, it is 99.9% of the time NOT the pump and extremely likely to be the ABS control module that sits underneath the pump.

I managed to get a replacement off ebay from a polo gti that was being broken for only Â£50 including the pump and ECU. The ABS control module can be changed without having to disturb the braking system (Dont need to flush or bleed the system once you have changed it)

As soon as i changed the module the light cleared.

The problem these modules have, is that the engine bay gets so hot, that the solder inside the ABS control module starts to melt and de-solder itself from the board causing a malfunction and creating an error between the module and ECU.

You should check your wheel sensors as well whilst getting checked out with VAGCOM, just to be on the safe side.

the fault code is 00 287. apparently this is the right hand side rear wheel sensor.

can anyone explain how to replace the sensor?

ok i have a problem, when i was trying to get the old sensor out the bastard allen key bolt thing sheared off and the sensor is held in fast, any ideas how i can get it out?

also as a plan b can someone tell me how to disable the abs warning light so my car will pass an MOT.

.....The ABS warning light is a safety WARNING....dont disable it...fix the problem..... Its fairly easy to disable it...but do the rest of the motorists on the road a favour and do it properly... Its an MOT fail for a very very good reason

Im not sure exactly what you have sheared off...but sounds like you may have to drill out/cold chissel off the old bolt head to remove the sensor....and hope you can get some marlgrips(sp?) around the remainder of the bolt and twist it off.... if you have a blow torch and can use it without melting anything....I suggest trying to heat up the remaining bolt...let it cool... heat it up again...let it cool a bit...and give it a tug around with marlgrips and hammer...

Best way to get it out i have found is to just smash the end off it, and drill the bugger out
