Cheap GTI needing a little work

Post by Tigz »

Reflex Silver 6N2 Polo GTI.
2001 x Reg
52k miles.

Around 4 months tax and 10 months test (I'll confirm the exact dates)

Cambelt replaced 46k miles.
Boot mounted CD changer.
Full Climate Control.
Gas Discharge Headlamps.
Raceland Manifold.
Few little touches, Lupo GTI wipers, Beatle sunglasses holders and Honda style aeriel.
No dints or filler.
Mint interior.
First owner from new till 1.0 year.
Second owner from 1.0 year to 4.0 year.
Myself from then on.

Bad bits.

Gearbox was rebuilt following bearing failure.
Fully rebuilt using VW items by experianced gearbox specialist.
After less than 40 miles while running in I was foolish and drove the car too hard and now 1st gear is noisey under full load (cant hear it if you are driving it normally).
The box will need to be removed and the main bearing replaced again.
As the car hasn't been driven, its higly unlikey there will be any damaged, so should cost no more than £100 to remove and refit the box and £100 for the bearing to be replaced.
I can put you onto the specialist if you dont want to do the repair yourself.

Gearbox casing used was a 1400 so requires a reverse light switch and speedo sensor from a GTI box
You could replace the plugs on the loom, little more work but costs next to nothing in parts.

Wheels were stripped to be refurbished.
Centres are completed, two rims and completed but two need finishing.
The car is on some cheap 5 spokes with good Eagle F1 195s on the front and good Dunlop SP9000 205s on the rear.

Fuel Tank Sender needs a clean, works fine when driving in a straight line or turning left but looks to be empty during right hand turns.

I dont even have the time to take the car down to Sheffield to get the box rebuilt, so until I find the time to complete the car I will accept an offer of £2000.00

I will take some pictures at the weekend (Its dark when I go and come home from work)

Heres a few older pics, nothing much has changed with the exception of wheels.

Ah shame mate. How come your selling up? Hope the sale goes well!

QQ - how did fitting the raceland go? Is it a fit with no problems? ie. clears the sump ok? And do you have to do any extra work to get the lamba fitted? Or does it go straight on?

My Lupo is close to being done.
Ive descided against using the megasquirt ECU so need to raise £1200 for the Motec, wiring and mapping plus I need a little extra to finish painting the car.
Gutted its got to go, I was hoping not to sell it so I could have fixed it next spring when the Lupo was done as its a mint car. :(

The manifold was a pig lol
Heated and bent the pipe to clear the sump and subframe, soldered new cabling to the loom for the lambda probe as it sits a little further down.
Hardest thing was getting into position though past the aircon pipes and Alternator!

Still not had the chance to get any pictures.
May be interested in a swap or PX with something interesting.
