It's a bit of a chuckle to drive - 180mph and 0-60 in 5 - 0-100 in 10 would be!!!!

Not suited for track day work (as can be seen in the video) - a day at Silverstone taught me enough - didn't quite learn cos I did Bruntingthorpe with it too but that was only cos there is a 2.5 mile straight and she comes into her own then!!!!

Mind you 7-9 mpg comes hard on Optimax - Thats why I love the Polo (s) in the winter!!!

She's not a garaged and never driven toy - Did 2500 miles in a week year before last to Italy and back averaging 31mpg (would have been better but for a little tussle with an M3 that led to some very silly speeds)

And I've averaged 4-6000 miles in 5 mths every year with her but shes only got 32K on her now so i can't go daft and drive her every day

A Raleigh mountain bike with 21" wheels, 21 gears, lightweight (Chromoloy or whatever they call it), road tyres with spiked edges - my pride and joy (sort of) for about 18 months till I hit a Nissan Sunny while chasing my mate. Would up lying on the boot looking through the back window at four confused looking kids. Result: one mashed bike, two bruised thighs and a dented ego.

It lived to ride another day though, and I've used it once since, in December 1999, and it bloody snowed, hard, so I had to abandon it at a mate's house and come back for it. Hardly surprising it's not been used since though as I bought this in March 2000...

A Cinquecento Sporting (don't laugh till you try it!) great on the twisties and I got 120mph out of it (I also went through 2 engines and 1 gearbox)

I spent about £10k including buying the car and sold it for £1.5k, that's a hell of a profit!!!

well both me and dan had our mk2 polo once we had passed! so, i have neva had a car apart from a polo! before that i had my mountain bike and trials bike! i still got them, really must use them sometime :)

The only car Top Gear had seen not only with a 40mph/1000 5th, but enough torque to cleanly pull away in that gear from idle through to 100mph quick enough to keep up with all traffic... that's grunt squared.

Krupa - feel your pain. I've ended up glancing off people's back windows before when they've out-braked me. There's nothing so humiliating as doing it when your mother happens to have randomly turned up behind you in her car, however.....

PoloGTi - GT2 tells me that the sporting redlines at about 95mph, how true is that? :D (would explain the thrashage - and why any Cinq thats gone near me in the past year sounds like its about to implode, especially the sportings)

Petri - i don't know, I assume it is. It came from a Best Buy in Jacksonville, Florida about a week ago, $18.99 (not bad value at all what with $1.80 to the £1.00 right now) :D For NTSC it looks damn good and has both the regular "English - hard of hearing" dubtitles and the (significantly different*) literal ones. Plus original japanese, not-so-bad english dub**, and french dub***. Haven't heard any word back about the keychains... the email's gone through and Paypal has taken the cash, but no confirmation :-(... arse.

* - well there's the little matter of lipsynch and localisation. The esteemed Mr Gaiman did what he could, but when you have to fit to lip-flaps and also not alienate half the audienc, comprimises have to be made. So two sets of subs are essential.
** - all except for sticking "by hate" on the end of "eyes unclouded", and the "I never thought i'd see home again!" (etc) when the iron town men are paddling back across the lake. Ugh. Damn seamless otherwise.
*** - Seems a whole lot closer to the original as far as I can tell. My french comprehension is a bit ropey but it does the job where it counts.

According to the books the top speed should be 94mph but determined to shut the passenger in my car up about his 'Corsa 1.2 16v SXi' I planted my foot and about 3 miles later :lol: I touched 120mph (might have had the wind behind me) Don't forget that was according to the speedo on the dash so it could well have been about 12mph :lol:

It really wasn't a top speed car, or an accelerating car... It was just great on the windy roads where you just don't use your breaks and hold on (like a rollercoaster). And only group 3 insurance!

Bad point - They break very easily!

I used to have a Cinq Sporting as well. It had great handling but was so small and tinny. After nearly diving in to a van that randomly pulled out in front of me and locking the brakes etc. and being ridiculed by everyone it had to go, though it was a good 1st car.

I got it up to about 100, but that was enough for me. Had anything have happened at that speed (or any speed above 30 in fact) I'd have been brown bread - so eased off.

Prefer my Polo though - even if it doesn't like corners as much. :D

My g/f drives a yellow Seicento sporting. It's pretty quick on acceleration and hellishly good fun down the lanes. Starts to lose a bit of power though when you've got 6 people in there!!

check www.diesel-inside.com and look in rides.

SEAT_TDi has a 130hp Arosa TDi which does 16s 1.4 mile dead and 0-60 in 7.9 secs (all from a 1.4 3-pot)

Theres a couple of tuned 306dTurbos there as well Derv Doctors is pushing nearly 200hp

I wanted one since they were released new - but £50K was twice my mortgage :( Had to wait a while but as they say everything comes to he who waits

22yrs old no-ones gonna touch you - wait till your 25 and then you can put it on a Fully Comp classic policy with agreed mileage and insure it for buttons - thats what I find so funny £300 per year fully comp agreed value £20K and limited to 4K miles with no no claims required - Includes Track cover too.....

Normal Fully Comp insurance with full NCB - clean licence and no accidents last 5 years - limited to 6K miles and 39 years old was £1800 - best quote I could find.

How do they make the distinction I'll never know _ I don't drive it any different just cos it's insured on a classic policy

A friends got a Old(ish) Mazzer Bi-turbo and he rang round for normal insurance and they wanted £800+ for a car with a value of £2500 - Classic policy saw him legally on the road for £168.

Incidently my Polo is only just cheaper to insure (real close) and that was with all the NCB etc etc

Like I said the car is a laugh (except when it's raining - then its frightening) but modern toys like scoobys, evo's and M3's etc leave me for dead on the twisties - but come any straight thats it - they are toast!
