New Member.....
hi guys and girls, new member here, just signed up about an hour ago. I'm 18 and been driving a year, come january, which means i get my first ncb. However now i have a full time job and instead of going to university i decided to earn some cash a new car is definatly needed
! For that last year, around a year i brought it, I've been driving a 1.2 16v clio which isn't a bad first car and is definatly helping me learn the basic skills and fun of driving. I've saved hard for a year now since working and have 7k to play with, which with another couple of months wages, selling my car and my bonus i should have around 10k - 11k. I was first thinking, F**K it lets get a clio sport, 2 litre at 18 would turn some heads, but the insurance is ridicolous, so a polo GTi is what im looking at, the new model. 1.8T. As i say my full time job is allowing me to save and pay for the insurance which is around 2-3k but i believe from reviews and pictures of the car its well worth it. Obv you guys will say yes, but is it what its lived up to be? Good car to drive and mess about in and most importantly is it worth me spending a total of 10k on??
cheers, Rodri

Hey Mate,
Welcome to the site, I am new member myself but you have certainly picked the right forum for Polo's. Nice bit of cash you have there to play with, should get you a cracking motor. Good choice with the Polo 9N3 GTI, quick motor. Those cars have a lot of potential especially being turbocharged. The stock is 150BHP but you wouldnt have to spend much to get that to 210BHP. Re-map, Exhaust,Manifold, Induction Kit etc.
Have to say I am not that keen on the styling of the 9N3 models but I still woulnt mind one at 18.
I am 20 now and my insurance for my Polo GTI was £1400 in my own name (paid monthly) so I can imagine the insurance companies are rubbing their hands when you get quotes.
Good luck with it all. If it was me I would buy a Polo GTI 6N2 and do a 1.8T 20V conversion but thats alot of work

I wish I had that much money at 18.tomo87 wrote:i wouldnt spend £10k on a car at 18 really....
i didnt think that the Polo GTI 1.8T really ever took off?
I would get something like a MK5 Golf TDI maybe and then have some cash in your pocket....?
I.8T is a huge upgrade from a 1.2 clio. Might be worth getting something lower powered for a year or two, build up your no claims then get yourself something quicker.
If your earning decent money though and can afford the insurance... then why not
