Feels like hitting rev limiter at random rpm's.

Post by panda »

Hi all,
Was just wondering if anyone's got any ideas about my problem. After a long drive tonight (160 miles) my car's decided that it'll randomly place the limiter anywhere along the rev range. Or so it seems... I've also realised that when i re-apply the throttle pedal, it works as normal. So.... pull away from junction, get to approx 3k for example, feels like i've hit the rev limiter, have to leave off the throttle and then re-apply and then it's fine.
I'm guessing it could be throttle position sensor? Possibly camshaft sensor or even crank sensor? but surely they'd cause the engine light to come on?
Could it also be a sticky or dirty throttlebody?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Paul.

I'd think that you would find some fault codes have been stored even although it has not switched on the engine management light yet. Either scan it or get it scanned soon.

sounds like dirty throttle body or a coil on the way out, get it scanned as said

Cam or crank position sensor can cause this - its a really wierd problem. My GTI suffered with it for a month or so, till I just replaced the sensors after vagcom flagged up the fault.

Oh, that old chestnut - strange, no instrument panel lights on when this happened?
