K&N or BMC CDA and fitment?
I've just fitted a K&N filter and just wondering how much better a CDA is and if its worth it. Here's a pic of my K&N I fitted a couple of days ago.
I've been looking up more and more and finding CDA have quite high reviews.
If I do chooes a CDA will this come with everthing I need:
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufacturer ... on-18.html
and is this an ok price, looks ok to me
and is this the right one for a 1.4 8V. And am I right in thinking I will need two breather filters and if I do what size do I require.
Any help and advice would be great, thanks

Or if I order seperatly what do I need, is this right:
The filter:
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufacturer ... t-406.html
63mm bend:
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/universal-it ... d-105.html
Two breather filters: (unsure on size though?)
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufacturer ... r-112.html

I'd definitely recomend the switch to bmc its nowhere near as loud as the k&n which sounds a bit like a loud fart, no offence i thought it sounded awesome while i had it, changed my mind when i wen bmc.
dont be put off by the lack of noise it grows on you and sounds so much better i burried my cold air feed in front of the battery and the sound reverbed in the wing and sounded awesome, like there was alot more than a 1.4 8v under the bonnet.
i put my own kit together mate for under £100
i used to have the same car as you and had the k+n to soon you will notice it will start to fill with oil! you need to hack apart the old airbox and cut the one way valve out of it so it lets air in but no air/oil out. theres a pic of it below as i took mine out, otherwise your engine will spit all the oil out and no oil isn good
i think it goes on the breather that goes into the right side of the k+n
you are right in saying you will need another breather for the cda but they can be picked up of ebay for cheap.
You need:
CDA 70 - 130 i think
Silicon Reducing Elbow 70-50 (90 degree)
Suitbale jubilees
The way i did mine i order a silicon coupler think i got a 68mm one as it does fit on the bmc and attached my k+n cold air feed to the bmc with jubilee clips as the k+n hose was pretty good and looks good to.
i also made a bracket out of a few fixings i got from focus diy.
here are some pics of mine below:
after and engine bay tidy up
id really recommend a bmc there awesome, but id sort that brerather out first before your engine start spitting oil which i bet it already has!
got any qs just pm me

also i wouldnt route the cold air feed where i have in the photos as it rubs on the radiator hoses and they can burst hence why i moved it to behind the battery
so basically what you need is:
BMC CDA 70-130
70-50mm silicon elbow
68 or 70mm coupler
jubilee clips
cold air feed which you have
19mm breather for the larger breater as i used k&n attachments to attach them so you may want to do it differently

that was before i changed it to the one way one which you need to do unless you want your engine to run out of oillolhoward wrote:cheers for that mate. On your pics with the BMC your breather filter doesn't seem to have the one way valve. Is it not needed if I get the BMC with two breathers.
you only need the one breather and thats 19mm presumming your going to use the kn adapter plug to attach it
just noticed your selling your k+n kit so probably best to get a 18-20mm filter with a joiner to mount it to the tube
so all you need is the one 18-20mm filter, id use the ebay one above as its cheap and i presume you will have gone for blue hoses? and a few jubilees also

sorry im confusing youlolhoward wrote:Sorry mate.
You have two pipes
one 12mm and one 19mm.
Do you need a breather filter on each?
you need one breather of 19mm as i just posted above
the other breather needs to be cut out of the exisiting airbox/engine cover
what you need to do is unscrew the airbox off the bottom of the engine cover take out the filters and you should see the bit im on about!
then for looks sake chop the back left mounting leg off the airbox and screw it back to the engine cover then you can trim your engine cover around your cda to get a neet finish like mine and your ignition leeds look better that way!
