As far as i'm aware you can't fit aftermarket speakers in the rear doors (this is if it is 3dr i dunno about 5dr). Volkswagen have been cunning so everything of there's fits perfectly. I've got a Sony MDX-690 and i haven't used any adapters, the only thing that's different from having my BETA unit in is that i have to have the ignition on to switch the radio on. And also it has not messed up any oter electronics but there have been rumours that in some (rare???) cases it can screw up with the ecu and therefore it wont be under warranty anymore (i think this is what i was told by a dealer once before, but i can't really remember it was too long ago.).

Back to the subject of rear speakers it may also be easier to get speakers for the parcel shelf? At an extra cost by a stealth shelf or build one your self. I've got the upgraded speakers for the rear (3dr) and they're alright but not brilliant, when up high i think they rattle, only usually heard from outside the car where they are between the metal work and the plastic interior.

Front speakers i've never had problems with, the only rattles i've got are when pens are in the door or on the dash and they rattle when the volume is up, or somewhere on the outside of the car rattles when i've got the volume very high, this is probable because of my sub and 6x9's in the parcel shelf.

I went to a audio shop nearby my house and they told that they have to customize the wiring harness because there's a wire there that is connect to the electronic system but is an easy thing to overcome! :) I would prefer an wiring harness plug&play but in Portugal there's no such thing yet! :s I've contacted www.caraudidirect.co.uk but they don't to foreign countries! :(

PS: I can fit speakers on the rear doors! :P

Yeah i didn't say you couldn't put speakers there!! Just aftermarket speakers!! I've got rear speakers put in to mine, i just had to buy the grille's to replace the dummy ones in there as well as the rubber bit that the speaker attaches to as well as the plastic mount the whole lot sits in!! However with 5dr you may be able to put aftermarket speakers in more easily :P :D

The Spacer you need can be brought from Autoleads and are for the Golf, these spacers fit perfectly on the front doors of my non-polo and should be the same on the polo.
