Coilovers - Knocking sound

Post by mattupson »

Well fitted my coilovers last weekend, no problem there.

But have noticed when im turning there is quite a noticable kncking sound coming from the front. This sound doesn't happen when going over bumps, only when turning/steering.

Have double checked everything is tight but can't spot anything immediate.

Any ideas? Car is Polo Gti 6N2.

Cheers.

What make are they, and what condition were your old top mounts in?

The clicking is normally the spring rotating as the bearings at the top of the mount arent working properly.

Top mounts are around 40 each genuine, but GSF sell for for £11.31 each. If you have a knocking, ull need a new axial grooved bearing too which is about 10 quid.

the knocking sound is normal, its just the helper spring relocating itself as its under load

try keeping them well greased up mate, it might quieten them down by causing less friction

Cheers for help guys.

Turns out the top mount was done up too tight so bearing wasn't moving free. Just loosened it off a bit a re-tightened and now no noise!
