Fabia Brakes

Post by Lordnikon »

Have searched abit now and found some conflicting information, along with a whole host of dead links :(

Wanting to upgrade the front brakes on a 1.4 sport, believe they are 256mm as standard, would the fabia discs and calipers swap on without having to change hubs etc ???

I would not base what you are looking for purely under "Fabia" - as all these marques have the same brake options. If your brake callipers bolt directly to the hub, then you can not "up" the brake size without changing the hub assemblies for the "up market" option.

Surely all calipers bolt to the hub via the caliper brackets ???

Are you saying the caliper bracket mounting points are different on the marques therefore requiring the change in hubs ??

IIRC the fabia VRS and polo GT have caliper carriers that bolt onto the hub assembly. Others have the caliper carriers cast onto the hub assembly.

Lordnikon - that is indeed your answer - and you can add Ibiza Cupra to the list of cars using this platform that actually have calliper + calliper mounting brackets + hub - as opposed to all the lower models that only have calliper + hub with built-in calliper mounting points. I thought that you should find all you need to know on either the Fabia site or the Ibiza site - maybe you need to look under the "how to do it" sections or something like that.

that's right - you need to do the hubs to upgrade your brakes.

changing your fluid and new pads would help a fair bit.

Had the front apart today and it is indeed a hub change. Ordered some replacements this afternoon and have settled on some Porsche 4 Pots for the front. Just need to get the lines made up which shouldn't prove to hard :)
