Removing Headlights Question..

Post by kaz »

I'm looking to replace my headlight units as the seal round them appears to have leaked and condensation has been there since I had the car which is now becoming a disturbing shade of green

I've come across a DIY guide for changing the sidelights without having to take off the bumper (http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... ht#p257389). Im wondering if the bumper will need to come off to take the main headlights off, otherwise I might as well take the lot off to start with?

And also anyone know how much these might cost direct from VW? As I've seen some on ebay for bout 30quid each..

Cheers

You'll have to take the bumper off I'm afraid, as there's two brackets down there that can't be accessed any other way.

Geniune and New for £30 is a fair price. Seond hand sets normally come around for about £50.

Thats cool, it really needs to come off sooner rather than later anyway, I've been lazy and not even changed the lower grilles yet :| And I reckon when someone drove into it, it may have slightly knocked the bumper out of place on that side so need to really check that out..it has survived a trip to cornwall and back and another to milton keynes and the bumper has stayed on, so its not exactly gonna drop off anyway ;) but nice to check these things out.

Hmm £30-ish doesnt sound bad, I may make a visit to VW tomoz seeing as I have the day off and go and haggle a fair price ;) :D

p.s. sorry for hi-jacking ur progress thread earlier Tim lol

oww, thats rubbish! Better keep an eye out on ebay at least if I wanna get them before the xmas bonus gets paid!!

Was that on ur old shiney red car? Dont tell me the GTi took a beating?

(hmm its surprising how much u pick up about people as a lurker, lol sorry)

Was the £75 just for the main headlamps? Im guessing side lights require more parting with money, yes?

Deco also do good replacement indicators, which used to be available for purchase on eBay, £23 a set they were.
