Polo GTI window experts needed!!!

Post by chris meardon »

Ok i no there are numerous posts on the window problem that gtis have but i really cant find my problem in those posts.

When i got the car the drivers window didnt work, and on the drivers side switch if you pushed the button for the passenger door enough it would go down, and it still gos up.
So heres a list of what works and what doesnt

Drivers side switch - drivers side window - up = NOT WORKING
Drivers side switch - drivers side window - down = NOT WORKING
Drivers side switch - Passenger window - up = WORKING
Drivers side switch - Passenger window - Down = Not working
Passenger switch - passenger window - up and down = working

Can anyone shed some light?

thanks

Window regulators are knackered mate. Common fault on Polo and alot of other VW's to be honest lol My Golf Cabby mk3 has the same issue and my Polo is on its way to this.

I think (dont quote me though) they are around £70 :-s

Cant be the regs as the passenger side window is working on the passenger switch. Check the switch from the passenger side in the drivers side and see if that makes a difference. Drivers door could be the switch or the reg, but you can use a reg from any 3 door or 5 door MK5 polo with electric windows as they all have the same ones - its just a different window guide!

Check for broken wires in the rubber boot between the door and car. Similar thing happened to mine and found there was a split earth cable in there. Does the central locking button work?

Had a similar issue....

The switches had got wet at some point and gave similar symptoms... try replacing the switches... its easy and doesn't cost too much!
