Rear washer not working

Post by rubber »

Hi,

My rear washer has just stopped working.

I know its been cold etc but the front ones work fine.

The rear wiper works but no water!
Although I can hear the pump making a sound no water come out!

Anybody got any ideas?

Lift the bonnet and have look in, get someone to engage the rear wiper as if to wash it. There is a connection in the pipe that might have came open, if it has you will see the water coming out.

Mine cam apart in the engine bay just behind the battery box. It can also come apart in the passenger side rear 3/4 panel by the rear seatbelt tensioner apparently

Cheers for that guys,

got someone to sit in car and operate the washer while i looked under the bonnet.
I can hear water being sprayed, and can see it comig out from the passneger side front arch lining,
Cant see water spraying anywhere undr the bonnet but can hear it leaking somewhere around the battery.
Will I have to remove the battery or what?

I reckon the pipe has slipped down behind the bumper. Might be a bumper off job :(

Nah it shouldnt be a bumper off job. If you get someone to operate the washer and pop your head down by the front passenger side underneath the inside of the front wheel arch, see if any leak is coming from there. If so just remove the star shaped screws underneath the whole length of the front bumper, this is for the plastic engine cover. Slide it towards the back of the car and it comes out. Then unscrew the star screws within the front left wheel arch, there are around 4. If you pull the front of the wheel arch towards you it will reveal the washer bottle and the cables connected into it. :D

Hope this helps.

sorry for bumping an old thread but this seems quite common and happened to mine. on mine the connection broke underneath the airbox. had to remove the airbox to get at it properly as it was really tight and had a wee jub clip on it. I'm fairly unimpressed by the actual operation of the rear wash, i thought it might be a fan spray like the front but is just a single jet pointed centrally on the window and the actual wiper is just a standard type and not the new style flat wipers like the front to :(

you can see the jubilee clip and the washer pipe in the centre of the pic
