Any more updates on the dash?

I'm considering doing this conversion too, and would love to know what info you started out with, what problems you've came across, what order things should be done in, how long has it taken you etc and what else you have yet to do :)

A pm would be fine, and i'll problem take some pictures for a 6n2 dash conversion guide.

Not on the dash so far, well, some, but those will show in time as I'm not sure yet if the "up-dates" will solve my problems with the can-bus of the mk5 dials/tacho and my car/ECU having no Can-bus.

I'll try to keep making as many pics during the process when I get working on the dash again!

Do have another up-date, minor one though since my works of tonight stranded early, so am now having a beer and a smile behind the pc :lol:
Have fitted the Bonrath polyurethan suspension bushingsfor the rear-shocks on the upper mountingpoint:

And "tested" them, pushed the car from the side with the old bearings on, saw the shock wobble a bit in it's bushing. Did the same with the polyurethan ones, not a single millimeter of movement there -> :twisted:

Then went on with the Bonrath polyurethan bushings for the mount of the rear-axle itself. Started, jacked the car up already for the top bushings, jacked up the rear axle, took the passengerside nut of the bolt (drivers-side for you Brittish :mrgreen: ), then took the dirvers-side one of (passenger for the Brittish :mrgreen: ) -> sheit! The bolt is inserted from the side on which the brake-power-divider is mounted :evil: (or however you can that bloody thing in English). So tried to get the divider off, all bolts were just to damn rusty, no special oil left in my garage so bolted it all back and called it a night there. Better luck next time, probably gonna ask my m8 to lend me some space (and a bridge) in his workshop, some good oil and tools and get those polyurethan puppy's in place :twisted:

Have you got your 185/15s on yet mate? I'm considering them for my GTi, but don't want stupid amounts of stretch that are going to have a massive health warning on them tearing off!

No Tim, haven't even decided what to do with the centre's of the RS001's, let alone already fitted the rims and tyres. But 185-45-15 on a 8J rim will give you a good decent stretch, but not too much to make it unsafe. I think it looks the dog's nuts!

Also picked up my 1,6 8v AEE engine at last, kept forgetting to pick it up :oops: Started with taking it apart tonight, kind of sucked since the previous owner had one of them dreadfull crankcase-breatherfilter thingies on, smudged up the engine all over the place, all greased up of the oil and sheit stikking onto that :evil:

Cheers for that Jarno, i may just give them a go then. I need a bit more room in arches to drop it a bit!

What's the plan with the new engine? Strip it for parts?

It's for in the mk4, currently it has a 1.3 ADX as a basis, still have my throttle-bodies lying around, plus an extra ported/polished/skimmed head, a 268 cam. So the basic ingredients for a more fun are already present. Goint to completely take it apart, blueprint it, refurb it and get it running on the throttle-bodies etc. and then plug it in the mk4 8)


BTW: am I the only person who bloody hates the new outlay of the forum? I just hate it that unread topics keep blinking red on my screen every time I return here :evil:

Did some work again tonight, first of all fitted the new black sunvisors, looks very tidy in my opinion, and biggest plus is --> they're original VW-parts :mrgreen:

Sprayed them myself, only car I know with black handles that fit is the Lupo GTI, and those would cost me a fortune at the local VW dealer, so decided to do them myself, you can't spot the difference of them compared to original ones. The sunvisors were a different issue, since it's almost impossible to spray those and make it actually look decent, as is trying to retrim them yourself. So went for the easy option --> Go Go Golf mk4 Convertible!!! :mrgreen: :lol:

Just regular old matt-black, first make sure to use a plastic-primer! And have a lot of experience with spray-cans on interior-parts, just take your time and it will go perfect, no flaking what so ever 8)
