Rust
Rust
I have got some paint bubbles starting to appear on the drivers side door sill and down the side of the boot. The paint is not damaged in anyway.
Do you think I should go to vw and try to claim on the warranty, because you get a 12 year warranty for rust.
I have some on one wheel arch but that because the previous owner never bothered to sort some stone chips out.

Re: Rust
A mate of mine noticed last year that he had rust coming through above one of his front wheel arches. He has managed to get them to sort it, well sort of. All they would approve was to respray it, and it came back twice after that. He's just got it back for 3rd time, and is waiting to see what happens. They have agreed to fit a new wing now though if its comes back again.
I think he contacted VW UK directly, as his was about a year out of the warranty.
I noticed some on mine at the weekend too, above the back wheel arch, but I'll be taking mine back to a garage I had some repair work done after an accident, as I dont think VW would cover me, as it was a brand new rear wing I had

So it might be a bit of a hassle and you may need to kick up a bit of a fuss, as I bet they'll try anything to get out of it, but it'd be work it

Re: Rust
My wife's 2003MY Polo has a few bubbles, including one above the N/S rear wheel arch - not caused by damage at all, but I believe one of them is now weaping as it has broken the paint layer. I'm just a bit worried that any repair will end up being worse than just leaving it alone!

Re: Rust
Mine has some bubbling along the rear wheel arch I noticed when washing it....I've bougt some paint to do the job myself but will be hard to mach without spraying the whole panel which I don't want to do.
Let us know how you get on if I could get VW to sort it I'd be interested.

Re: Rust
i have a small bit in the drivers door shut where there is a plastic clip that has worn through paint.
about the size of half a pea, so not to fussed about it.
i didn't know VW had an extra warrenty on rust. doubt they'll do anything.
VW's suck, atm i hate my car and VW

Re: Rust
buy a renault, try and live with it, and then return with your revised opinion by comparison lol vw's are better than you might think lolpip_polo wrote:i have a small bit in the drivers door shut where there is a plastic clip that has worn through paint.

Re: Rust
Hmm. The 13 year old Peugeot we just got shot of didn't have a speck of rust on it - I'll be a bit peeved if I find any "bubbles" on the 6 year old Polo we swapped it for, anytime in the next seven years or so.
Really, there's no excuse for this in any modern car, those long perforation guarantees are there for a reason - ie, the manufacturer would never expect to have to pay out on them unless something's gone quite wrong at the factory. Qu'ell surprise.

Re: Rust
I took my 02 plate Polo in to the stealers i bought it from when i noticed rust under the pvc covering on the passenger door.
I also showed them the rust that had broke through on the boot handle.
He Told me the warranty will only cover rust from the inside out
and as mine was judged to be due to surface damage (joke) they would not honour the warranty.
How they figuered that out i dont know. The Rust was growing under pvc with no visible break.
I couldn't be bothered to argue with him, i just felt i was getting no-where and he had no intention of giving me anything.
Good Luck !

Re: Rust
does anyone else have the corrosion on the boot handle?
it's made out of some s**t things because 90% of polos over 3 years old around me have paint peeling off theirs.
will VW respray that?

Re: Rust
The reason i went in was because i had heard that VW were replacing these handles (known fault !)
He told me he had no knowledge of this, then went off to check it up (yeah, right) came back and said there was no recalls or anything for that and mine was the first one he'd seen with this problem. It was at that point i thought i was wasting my time with the Liar.

Re: Rust
I can't remember who told me but i got the impression that they replace the handle.
If it was a paint problem why replace the whole handle ?
Vw salesmen must pass a lieing course before they get the job !
