Manic Wipers and Headlamp Washers

Post by Mouse_GTI »

So I gets into my GTI this morning and fire it up. On come the wipers and I think "that's strange, I always reset the stalk even when it's been raining". Then I can hear the headlamp washers going on and off at random and I ain't even touching anything. The fuse box starts clicking like a riffle. I play about with the stalk but any "on" setting seemed to make the wipers stay on and the washers go on at random, even though my water tank was empty. After about 5 minutes of driving everything was back to normal and works fine. Has this happened to anyone?

(p.s. I hope my car starts behaving itself as it seems I have to post a totally new thread on here every day now on a totally different problem  )

Sounds like the washer relay was having a rather odd few minutes there. It might be on its way out!

At least that's something cheap-ish to replace. I do remember the fuse going for the headlamp washers around this time last year but the relay was fine

Looks like this guy had the exact same problem as me. Will check out the relay contacts at the weekend and see if that solves it
