Boot light
Boot light
Probably not the most exciting mod to make but my wife wants a boot light!
The car is a 02 plate 1.2S, but despite having a good level of other extras (aircon, puddle lights) it lacks that handy little light in the boot. I've seen some advertised on ebay - complete units that look as if they just clip in somewhere - but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of adding one of these aftermarket - is it possible? Is the wiring complicated or is it a push-in job? Are we likely to have the mount etc already, or have we just plain got the wrong car? It already has a warning light in the dash to say when the boot's open, so the car presumably "knows" when to turn the boot light on...
If anyone's done this and share any info/pictures that'd be great - or even if you happen to have a light fitted as standard in your car and could take a picture or two of where it is and how it's connected? TIA!

Re: Boot light
Somebody here had fitted two boot lights under their parcel shelf. Cant remeber who though?
Re: Boot light
Hmm, cheers, I'd rather go for the "factory fitted" look though if possible - and there aren't any details there on how they're connected exactly.
I guess I need to delve under the carpet in the back and see what is or isn't there already.

JUV< did you do it ?
Re: Boot light
the guides arent bad give you a better idea of what to cut into, me I wouldnt bother as the bulb is only small wattage and a total waste of space hence it didn't come with it in the first place.
Re: Boot light
Sorry no, not yet anyway, I had a look but the wiring etc in the back of ours didn't look much like the pictures and it was obviously going to be a bit of an involved job, and possibly more trouble than it was worth... to be honest it's kind of been pushed down the list a bit, IYKWIM.Ricochet wrote:JUV< did you do it ?
Still interested to hear if anyone else has managed it/can give some clear instructions though?

Re: Boot light
I'm interested in doing this too. Doesn't look too hard, looks like the guide is suggesting to make an adaptor to avoid cutting into the original wiring as much as possible. Looks like you still need to splice into a 12V supply somewhere, so not really too sure what the point of the adaptor is...
Only problem is, when I went to VW to get the parts a couple of months ago, the guy said half the parts couldn't be ordered as they weren't in the country!
Anyone else having issues getting the parts or have I just got a rubbish parts dept? lol

Re: Boot light
I managaed it successfully on my polo was very easy all you need to do is make the adapter and run a wire along to the light
