LAMBDA... How much?!?!?!

Post by tegwin »

Just popped into VW for a price on both Lambda probes... I nearly fell over when he told me...

£126 each...

Is this just VW wrip off prices.... or am I actually going to have to pay that much? I was going to replace both of them, in the hope that it cures my problem...but not at that price lol!

Are there any cheaper, generic ones that work just as well and are just as reliable?

(The last "non vw" temp probe I bought, broke after a few months...)

Had a call around...

The GTI uses wideband sensors...

To get genuine bosch ones.... is £59 front and 111 read inc vat and delivery from the US... Expensive... but better...

Im still not 100% sure that replacing the sensors will actually help atall!

Just a quick question...ive had my raceland manifold fitted to my polo now but the lambda sensor is short. How should i extend the wire, shall i simply chop the wire n put in longer wires? Also what type of wire should i use? Thanks!

yeah, simple, best using the same colour wires too, and DONT mix the wires up or you'll regret it lol

Use heat shrink crimps and wire thats rated to a high temperature also or else youll have a possibility of a short or meltdown

I replaced my lambda sensor before the cat also due to engine light saying "exhuast cat cylinder bank 1" as my revs are abit up abd down and made sure my throttle body is clean. so i think my cats gone. thus my excuse for manifold and de cat. 8)

I paid something like £120 IRRC

I couldn't find one anywhere that would do one for the 1.4 16v SE, went to gsf, ecp all of them would get out a wrong lambda sensor when asked for my car. only other place I found was vagparts which did it about £20 cheaper.
