Re: The GTI! - Alex's Progress Thread UPDATE PG52!!!
Well the GTI has been poorly again
Front left ABS sensor has been kicking up a fuss again, which is one of the cables that burned through so it had to be repaired. Somehow (not sure how!) the socket filled with water and caused the sensor to short, causing the ABS to apply at low speeds with no need to do so.
So, I replaced the sensor after many minutes drilling and chisseling the old one out of its hole - really wasnt playing ball!
Drive the car .... still not fixed!
So go to local scrappy, get a new ABS lead, repin it into the ABS pump.
Drive the car ... still not fixed!
By this point I was somewhat angry, so just put it all backtogether again, cleared the ABS error and went to bed. Next morning took it for a spin and its working perfectly - explanation?!
Oh well, so at least its working again for now. Im on the hunt for the other ABS cable, as this has been repaired too, so it would be nice to get a whole new wire in there. I guess I'll have to wait for the local scrappy to restock on cars!

Gunna speak to my mate about it. I'm not sure if he has space though, as he drives a 2 seater.
If he does and I'm available, I'll be getting a lift from Stafford.

Re: The GTI! - Alex's Progress Thread UPDATE PG52!!!
time for an update
well not much has changed really. im currently working on a automatic glovebox light similar to the ocatvias and that, and im working on revising my backlit door handles
gonna detail the gti on weds with at least 4 coats of polish and wax as its needing a decent deep shine restored.
im really not sure what else is left to change or improve as everything is working and loooking great. maybe a refurb of the rx2s and a strut brace, but overall id say its pretty much finished.
time to start project mk3 conversion me thinks if i ever get around to doing it!

I'd get your paint depth measured so you can work out how much you can cutting with a polisher mate. Can get rid of all those swirls and bring up a proper shine

An update at last
Painted the rocker cover today. Nitromors it all off, then scraped the remained, gave it a quick sand, and attacked it with halfords high temp red enamel.
Here is the progress so far:
